Keyword Grouper FAQ

Keyword Grouper 1.5 has issues.  Believe me, I know how annoying it can be as an end-user to receive errors or have to learn all the nuances of a new program.  Please allow me to address some of the most frequently asked questions I get asked about Keyword Grouper version 1.5.

1. Program looks like it died after I clicked the “Generate Common Themes” button.

When Keyword Grouper goes into this state, it doesn’t mean the program has died or stopped working (even though every indication says it has).  It’s still running and processing your data and eventually will come out of this coma-like state.  This happens when you have a lot of keywords to process.  Just give it time to process your data.

2. Keyword Grouper results tab is blank

Notice in the screenshot above that we are on the “Results” screen where we should see results after the preview screen.  Why don’t we?

Answer: make sure to check your keyword match type settings and make sure you have at least 1 of the 3 checkboxes checked (Broad, Phrase or Exact).  This is a bug that can easily be fixed but I probably won’t since I’m working on building a faster, better keyword grouping system.

3. After pressing “Generate Common Themes” button, the program throws an error

This is a question I get all the time.  Keyword Grouper is not “smart” enough to know how to handle certain characters such as open and closed parenthesis.  The program thinks it’s code or something is my best guess.  Highlighted in the above screenshot, you can see the “Message” area of the error message.  This will tell you what keyword is causing the program to throw an error.  This is why I always recommend you clean your keyword list before moving onto step 2 of Keyword Grouper.  If you don’t know how to clean your keyword list, please watch the video above.

4. Keyword Grouper is trying to send the error report to a Russian domain?

This is completely harmless.  The original developer was from Russia.  Sending Error Reports don’t actually get sent anywhere.  That domain errorlog was for testing purposes and was accidentally left in the program.

5. Why don’t you fix the above errors?

Honestly, I’m working on so much bigger projects that these errors are low on my priority list currently.  More importantly though, I am working on a BETTER, more flexible Keyword Grouping solution that is much more advanced, much more intelligent, faster, able to handle hundreds of thousands of keywords, and produces much better results.  It will be some time before I release it though.
